cessna 172 radio panel?
im trying to figure out the buttons on the top of a standard 172 radio panel, there is a knob that can turn to com 1 com 2 and something else and then there are a series of buttons that can be pushed in or out. can someone enlighten me how to use this radio stack since iam used to the cessna 152’s stack
The knob is used to pick which radio you want to transmit on. Then you can push in the button com1 or com2 to listen to the radio you are not transmitting on. ie…you are on your way into land you have tower set in on com1 and you are chatting with them. they ask if you have the current numbers and you forgot to pick up atis on the way in…so you can still be able to chat with tower on com1(if the knob is set to com1) but you set the atis frequency in com2 press the button and you can hear atis and still communicate with tower on com1 while getting the atis info without leaving tower frequency. If tower calls you simply press the com2 button off(should be a green light when you are listening and nothing when you are not listening) and atis will disappear and you can communicate with tower.
