cessna 172 history

Having some Rocky Marciano quiz knowledge is important for anyone who is interested in the history of the fighting sports. Modern sports like the various forms of MMA which have popularized the pay per view events lately all have their roots in professional boxing, which remains a strong support on its own as well. One of the most important figures in the history of professional boxing is Rocky Marciano, who in his short life became the only heavyweight champ who never lost a professional fight; outstripping greats like Foreman, Ali, Tyson, and Lewis in that regard.

An interesting piece of Rocky Marciano trivia is that although he worked out and thought about boxing, his first love in the athletic field was clearly baseball. He was very active on his high school baseball team. After his discharge from the army in 1946, he tried out for a Farm Team for the Chicago Cubs, who he trained and played with for three weeks before being cut.

A Rocky Marciano quiz will likely address his amateur careers, which ended with a record of 8-4. He had hoped to compete in the Olympics but was prevented from doing so after he hurt his hands in a fight with George McGinnis.

Rocky Marciano trivia includes that “Marciano” was in fact an adopted stage name. His handlers decided that his real name, “Marchegiano” was too difficult to pronounce and so he needed a better name to create his public persona. Rocky fought to make sure even his pseudonym would show his Italian heritage, eventually settling with his people on the name Marciano.

The death of Rocky Marciano occurred just before he turned 46 in 1969, and was the result of an unfortunate accident. Due to a pilot of a Cessna 172 flying in conditions that were beyond his ability, the plane crashed, killing all three passengers aboard, including Marciano. There were several factors that seemed to have combined to making the flight unsafe, and while at night and during bad weather the young pilot was unable to retain control of the plane, largely due to his inexperience at night time flying.

The legacy of Rocky has been large in the world of boxing. Ring Magazine has featured him on many of the “best” lists; naming him among the top heavyweight champions of all time, the best fighters of the last 80 years, and the 100 greatest punchers of all times. He has been featured in video games, movies, and even been honored on a US postage stamp.
