Should I or am I able to get my pilots license using a Cessna 206 turbo?
The 206 is most suited to our business needs, however I am not sure if it is recommended for use in training for a certificate (or even allowed.) I would obviously like to avoid purchasing two aircraft, and would also like to avoid renting a 172 if I own a 206. I would love to hear from some experienced pilots or CFI’s on this one. I’ve heard that safe flying is about good decision making and really want to start out on the right foot.
There is nothing wrong with beginning your flight training in a Cessna 206. If that is the primary aircraft you plan on using and purchasing I say more power to you. I did all my initial and instrument training in a Beech Bonanza, quite a difference from the little Cessna 172’s most people cut their teeth on.
The only words of caution I’d offer is that you still consider renting an aircraft (you can find places that rent 206’s for instruction) for the sole reason of making beginner mistakes in someone else’s aircraft so you’re not beating up your own aircraft. Otherwise it’s a perfectly fine way to go about getting your license.
